SharePoint Intranet for a Healthcare Organization
How Aciron does it
A healthcare network in Boston that partners with a major Boston hospital, medical school, and local community health centers needed technical help. They sought to establish a common SharePoint intranet site for their internal network. This healthcare company contacted us for our SharePoint consulting services.
First, with busy providers spread across the city, the network was experiencing a lack of knowledge sharing. This included communication, collaboration, and sharing information/best practices across the network. In addition, with most communication, sharing, and scheduling being arranged via email, the network found its current methods inefficient.
The client realized they needed a new way to share data files, manage projects, prioritize workflows, and share schedules. As a result, the client contacted Aciron to develop a custom SharePoint portal. However, this portal would facilitate enhanced collaboration and information sharing among its network of health centers and the parent hospital.
Aciron conducted a requirements gathering phase to define the client’s strategic direction for the SharePoint portal. As part of the process, Aciron conducted requirements-gathering interviews with key stakeholders. Most importantly, this allowed Aciron to understand the network’s process and pain points. In addition, Aciron performed a thorough assessment of the firm’s existing SharePoint intranet. We learned how to best configure the management solution.
Aciron developed a set of story-board slides/screen mock-ups. Subsequently, these documents were reviewed with the client so Aciron could incorporate their feedback.
The consultants followed a flexible approach to the configuration of the SharePoint system. This allowed the client to review progress weekly, provide feedback, and make adjustments. As always, Aciron delivered complete visibility into the project progress and provided regular status updates.
In conclusion, Aciron implemented a custom SharePoint intranet with extranet capabilities. The new system allowed both internal users and external partners to access the system. After all, by designing according to the client, Aciron configured the system so the network administrators, the parent hospital, and the local community health centers can share information.
Now all parties can communicate, collaborate, share schedules, and access necessary information in one location.
Meanwhile, the new SharePoint portal provides the client with the following features:
Shared calendar for easy scheduling and enhanced visibility into events across the network
Comprehensive document management features allowing users to add, manage, and share important documents in one secure, accessible location
A user-friendly link and resource library for convenient information sharing
A “How Do I?” wiki library for easy knowledge guide creation and viewing
An integrated contact directory
Utilizing SharePoint’s comprehensive built-in security capabilities, Aciron implemented advanced security features. After that, it protected the client’s data and information. In addition, Aciron designed the portal to be intuitive, such that all end-user groups can efficiently navigate the system.
